TVOCA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
TVOCA is always looking for volunteers. The community association is only as strong as its volunteer. In the past 6 months we have seen the attendance at our meetings increase, heard more chatter about neighborhood issues, and felt a renewed commitment overall. We are on our way to a rejuvenated and stronger HOA but WE NEED YOU! Every HOA needs ample volunteers to make it successful. TVOCA is in the process of planning Board of Directors elections and we will fill subsequent volunteer roles as well.
Here are a few ways to volunteer in Turf Valley Overlook:
1. Serve on the Board of Directors. If interested please submit your name ASAP.
2. Chair and/or support a special event committee – ice cream social, yard sale, Santa Parade, Halloween Parade, Egg Hunt, and others TBD.
3. Serve/support as a block captain.
4. Serve as liaison to local government agencies (reporting back to TVOCA), i.e., County Planning & Zoning, Chamber of Commerce, Public Safety, Transportation and Roads.
5. Serve as a neighborhood communication liaison to bridge the gap with our diverse neighborhood.
Volunteering 2 to 4 hours a month can be a fun, rewarding, and an essential way to build a stronger neighborhood. Make a difference in your community! If you are interested please contact a current Board of Directors member listed below.
2013 MEMBERSHIP
It is not too late to remit your 2013 TVOCA membership fees. As we begin the process of electing a new Board of Directors, it is important to make your voice heard. Currently 180 of 316 homeowners have voting privileges for the upcoming election. Please remit your $75 ASAP to your treasurer, Craig Fingerman, 2913 Cypress Bay Ct, Ellicott City, MD 21042.
HALLOWEEN PARADE
The TVOCA Halloween Parade was held on October 23rd. It was great to see our neighborhood transformed with so many excited kids and parents. One young lady remembered marching with Mt. Hebron in the parade 15 years ago. She was returning to support her daughter with the b.funk dancers. It is estimated that 500 plus people participated in this event. TVOCA would like to thank and give a big thank you to Kevin and Kate Powell for organizing the event for another year, the Howard County Police Department, the Marriott’s Ridge Marching Band, b.funk, and all other volunteers for making this event a success.
LEAF CLEAN UP
Each household is responsible for their own leaf clean-up. Howard County is not responsible for leaf collection in TVO 1. Please be courteous by bagging your leaves and disposing of them immediately and properly. Leaves can be disposed of at the Alpha Ridge Landfill and /or by bagging them for County pick-up on Thursdays. Thanks to those diligent homeowners that try to stay on top of the never-ending leaf situation. We see you and appreciate your efforts.
PARK SCHEDULES CONTROLLED DEER HUNTS
The David Force Natural Resource area has scheduled two controlled deer hunts in November. They are Tuesday, November 5 and Tuesday, November 26th. Hunters are allowed to use either a bow or shotgun, according to a county release. The hunt hours will be from dawn until 12 noon.
BYLAW AND COVENANT REVIEW
TVOCA is in the early stages of reviewing the bylaws and covenants that govern the neighborhood. We are seeking interested volunteers to attend one or two meetings to review and revise these documents. They can be found on the TVOCA Website at: http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/Turf_Valley_Overlook. If you are interested or have suggestions contact James Brown jamesbrown_923@hotmail.com .
VANDALISM REPORTS
It has been reported that vandalism is occurring in our neighborhood. We would like to ask all homeowners to watch for suspicious activity on their streets. No matter how large or small the act is, it is painful to the person that is targeted. Over the past 3 months the reported incidents involved tampering with landscaping and lights, throwing eggs, damaging flowers, multiple stolen pumpkins, destroying front door decorations, and ringing doorbells and dashing. One homeowner said “I have lived here for 25 years and never have anyone steal our pumpkins before this year.”
Some neighbors have discussed installing outdoor security cameras to catch the perpetrators. TVOCA will monitor the situation and ask all residents to be more alert. Let’s unite to keep our neighborhood safe and enjoyable for all.
